Ramanarayanan releases his 112th film with Mannin Mainthan. DMK supreme M Karunanidhi has penned the story and the dialogues of the film. He and Karunanidhi together build this film on the social relevant issue of the youth mislead by the gangsters, which is a kind of curse to the society now.
The story of politicians, police and the underworld nexus unfolds...
Bhairavamurthy (Manoj K Jayan) and Gajapathy (Ponnambalam) are rival landlords
in a village called Metukudi. Their loyalists are in continuous rift with each
other leading to regular violence in the place. In the process Bhairavamurthy
looses his wife in the hands of the loyal goons of Gajapathy. His driver also
gets killed in the carnage. To avenge Gajapathy he upbrings Kadhir (Sibiraj),
the driver’s son. When they grow up, his daughter Amutha (Suha) comes to the
village and falls in love with Kadhir. Bhairavamurthy learning about the affair
decides to eliminate Kadhir and unites with his archrival Gajapathy to execute
the work.
The lovers elope from the house and runs hither thither. This is when they meet Anand (Satyaraj) a rough and tough cop whose motive is to uproot crime and criminals. Together they become brothers in arms and pledge to eradicate such anti social elements from the society. The so far loyalist of the landlords also realises their mistake and give up the bad profession that does nobody good. Later they teach the landlords a lesson.
The dialogues by M Karunanidhi are very transparent with political implication and refer to the contemporary issues like the disappearance of Kannagi statue and Sivakasi Jayalakshmi case. Some of the dialogues confuse the audience in many ways. The story is archaic and so the film has no novelness to offer due to this factor. The direction is nothing spectacular and very outdated.

Sibiraj in the role of a fiery young lad doesn’t render his best. In terms of action movie he still seems to be in the kindergarten. His character is vital in the film but his inconspicuous acting ruins it all. Some more homework should do fine for him. He is not taut and his acting demands a lot more. Debutante Suha is a passé. Manoj K Jayan and Ponnambalam in very influential way dominate the screen. Satyaraj appears only to say some bombastic dialogues. Vadivelu’s comic performance is average. Others in the cast include Alex, Suman Shetty, Bala Singh, Indhu and Thiyagu.
The music of Bharadwaj is unappealing and insignificant. Editing by Raj Keerthy is commendable.
Mannin Mainthan is a much ado about nothing stuff.
